The New Testament was a major theme in Dutch printmaking of the 16th and 17th centuries. Rembrandt's etchings are the climax of a tradition that began in the Netherlands with Lucas van Leyden, and was carried on by artists like Maarten van Heemskerck, Maarten de Vos and Hendrick Goltzius. Rembrandt's ‘dialogue' with his predecessors is a leitmotif in the exhibition narrative. The catalogue presents a selection of over a hundred prints which together provide a broad overview of two hundred years of Dutch prints of scenes from the New Testament, with artists such as Lucas van Leyden, Pieter Bruegel, Peter Paul Rubens and Anthony van Dyck. This book was published in Dutch only.
